Know How Foundation (KHF), Pune, is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to sustainable waste management and environmental stewardship. With a vision of creating zero-waste cities and villages, KHF champions decentralised, community-driven solutions that treat waste at source, minimise landfill dependence, and restore ecological balance.

Its flagship innovation, the composter planter, enables households to convert kitchen waste into nutrient-rich compost while growing plants in the same unit. This simple yet transformative model is adopted by over 10,000 households, treating approximately 10 tons of waste per day in Pune.

KHF also works extensively in sustainable agriculture by partnering with farmer groups to enhance soil biodiversity and promote regenerative farming. It assists communities in on-farm input production such as organic compost, bio-fertilisers, and bio-pesticides; supports farmer groups in achieving organic certification; and develops market linkages for organic produce. The foundation provides tailored packages of practices aligned to specific soil types, crops, and climatic conditions, ensuring higher productivity and long-term soil health.

Through collaborations with gram panchayats, schools, corporates under CSR, rural communities, and farmer groups, KHF combines innovation, behavioural change, and capacity-building to create measurable impact – cleaner habitats, healthier soils, and sustainable livelihoods for an environmentally responsible India.
